Bitch launched an assault on fashion week the minute he was photographed in public wearing a rumpled, short-sleeved plaid shirt and wearing Madonna's '80s merkin on his chin. As for "jotting notes on how to make a bomb", here's hoping that would be the "Nude Bomb"... [www.youtube.com]
@newsnun: Yea, because convicting the '93 WTC bombers really prevented the 9/11 attacks. And putting away Omar Abdel-Rahman for good really stopped him from using his attorney and translator to get out his fatwas and terror commands!
I find it interesting that so far, not one person has posted here that they're glad, relieved, whatever that something(s) very awful was averted, but that they think it can score political points against the other side.
@The One: Hey, not so fast! My reaction upon hearing the news: oh this is great! But wait, will the charges be tossed in a few months because there is no case? No! That was the Bush admin's "terror arrests"! It might actually be different now!
(happy Newsnun dance)
@The One: It's about tone. People are excited because the tone of "the war on terror" has changed, no longer are we representing ourselves as cowboys in the wild west fighting "injuns," but any success in preventing terrorism that stems from mature tactics helps shift the dialogue.
The right's message is that under Obama, a softy, we are not safe. The gloating here comes from the sense that we can prove them wrong, diplomacy and a well run CIA could help more to prevent future terrorist attacks than the idea that the rest of the world should cower in the presence of America's righteous wrath. I have spoken with Republicans and Libertarians that feel we should have a leader who instills fear in others. Most left-leaners do not want to believe this is true. I, for one, don't.
@Claire Buoyant: I was going to write my own Anna Wintour line, but I dutifully scanned the comments before posting. I had to read all the way up to comment number two to find this. King's to you, Buoyant. I guess I'll try to come up with some crack about Zoolander or someth...God damn it, Airvault.
@Cheruth: and obama brought osama before the american people, and said: lo, note that we are not the same person. and the heads of bigots and hack pundits esploded, and it was good.
@pony_express: My greatest dream is that we catch him RIGHT before the elections in 2012, and Glenn Beck literally explodes in a fit of petulance and gore.
@katastic: haha. and imagine o'reilly: "say what you will about glenn beck - sure, he might have esploded all over the teevee, scarring an entire country psychologically, but the guy's ratings were through the roof!"
@The One: Absolutely. Ultimately the CIA had him under Clinton and Clinton failed to take action, something that doesn't get discussed a lot. But you can't avoid the politics of this, whoever resolves the War in Afghanistan and brings Osama to trial proves which methodology we use as a country going forward. As much as I have criticism of Obama, I appreciate the tone he is trying to take in foreign policy and would rather his diplomacy represent us for the next few decades than a return to Cheney world domination.
Dude, if it wasn't a bunch of African American old men talking about blowing up JFK from a park somewhere in South Brooklyn, then it's not terrorism. I mean, that was the Bush standard, right?

I didn't vote for Obama, but I'll applaud anything that he does (or is done on his watch) to catch more terrorists and prevent further attacks.

But most Libertarians I know lean more left than right when it comes to the war on terror thing and war, in general.
They're also batshit crazy, for the most part.
