    These guys are talented, but don't know how to pull in their eccentricities to make something people will actually want to watch. The Baxter? Stella? Could have been brilliant if they had kept their audience in mind a bit.

    A ton of shows in the fifties (and at least early sixties) had commercials as part of the shows, like say Jed and Granny enjoying the smooth taste of Winston cigarettes during a break in the Beverly Hillbillies... and more recently there was The Dana Carvey show (aka The Taco Bell Dana Carvey Show, The Mug Root Beer Dana Carvey Show, etc.) It's hardly a first...

    I don't care if it's a half-hour of Black and Showalter shilling for asbestos baby blankets, so long as it proves to be the appropriate vehicle for their unique style of humor. I've always loved these two, but their exploits on post-The State TV series (other than Viva Variety and the occasional genius guest spots on Reno 911) have fizzled. Please let this be the show that works!
