The first time I saw Karen Olivo I thought "she's a little Appoloniaish, no?" Hopefully she will politely return all gifts of lacy unitards and purple velvet frock coats.
Karen's married...well, not for long. Too bad "Karen O" is already taken. It was probably Prince's go-to for the grand renaming ceremony which will consummate their funky union.
Uh oh, Karen Olivo sure fits the profile of women Prince "likes." I bet he wrote about her in his diary...
Dear Diary. I saw this girl last night, she's a cross between that chick I was married to in the 90s, Nia Peebles and Rosario Dawson, Isn't that delicious? I think I'll call her CoCo...
Just so you know, there are still some special "recession-priced" $20 tickets available for the L.A. production of Frost/Nixon. Stacy Keach is out for now, but the whole show has gotten excellent reviews.
This morning I read a review of West Side Story in the Spanish newspaper El Pais, written by their New York correspondent. She liked it too, but made one good point: if you know Spanish, it's really disconcerting to hear Maria's very Argentine accent. I'm surprised nobody thought of a little dialogue coaching.
@SarahHeartburn: And as I'm sure there are many a light-haired Puerto Rican, I'm kind of disappointed they went with an obviously European looking Latina to play Maria. Granted, Natalie Wood is Russian, but they couldn't find someone who looks like a great majority of Puerto Ricans which is dark hair and olive skin?
@cmd: Lots of South Americans, especially in Argentina, are of European descent. I know a lot who have British, German, Ukranian, Russian, Polish anceestors, and arelight haired and fair skinned.
I knew a member of the WSS movie cast years ago -- Burt Michaels, who played Snowboy. He directed a summerstock version of West Sides Story I was in as a teenager. Nice guy. Great dancer.
I looked for him in that picture, but then realized it's from the Broadway show, not the film.
@MisterHippity: I need to see this WSS, in order to wash away the memory of all the countless terrible high school and dinner theater productions I've sat through.
That is a great review. So question for all the New Yorkers in the house? Other than Ticketmaster (with their evil surcharges), how does an out of towner get tickets?
@secretagentman: The TKTS booth? OR! You could ask someone from Gawker who is here in NYC to pick you up tix from the box office. Of course, this would require both parties to be on the honor system.
