Andrew Sullivan will be permitted to express an opinion on any subject he likes as soon as he apologizes for foisting Betsy McCaughey on the American people, and doing his best to help the Gingrich right's derailing health care reform in the United States for the better part of two decades.
How many people in your precious gay community suffered and died because they were denied health insurance over the course of these last 20 years, Sullivan, and how does it feel knowing that, in part, they suffered and died because you were blinded by ideology, careeerism and your snobbishness about the Clintons?
Just when you think this guy is beginning to show some signs of growing out of his adolescent narcissism, he reminds us just what a flabby, pumped-up dick he is.
2) Obama sold out the gays. This is simple horseshit on his part. The people who would hate him for being pro-gay already hate him because he's black and a Democrat. He has nothing to lose.
@BettyCrocker: The people who would hate him for being pro-gay already hate him because he's black and a Democrat. He has nothing to lose.
He has their votes to lose. He would not have been able to win if the bigots did not vote for him, and they did because it was "the economy, stupid". When it's no longer the economy, voting on social issues will come right back. If he stands with the gays, forget Virgina, he might lose California!
I think he is looking at it this way: why should he do anything for the gays? They will never vote Republican anyhow.
@Btwbfdimho: God also hates red-headed children, over-cooked talapia, duck calls and the color puce. When you get right down to it, he's a cranky old bastard, and the 10 commandments can't possibly contain all the things he created, and yet hates. Talk about self-loathing.
@BadUncle: Well, excuse Me for existing, My son. And the only mistake I made with My 10 Commandments is redundancy. I put in some valuable stuff about not coveting your neighbor's property and also put in some unnecessary redundant crap about not coveting your neighbor's wife. One's 'property' includes one's wives, kids, illegal immigrant gardeners, sex slaves and pet chihuahuas.
me thinks this is a case of people hearing what they want to hear, as far as obama and gay rights, i dont remember anything.
maybe it was that poster that said hope, and we folk thought we were in on it.
our bad!
In some ways, Obama's fealty to the big gay lobby rather than to the real gay community is testimony to why Democratic party politics remain repulsive to me.
Andrew Sullivan seems like the worst kind of loathsome hypocrite. The Democratic party politics are repulsive to him because they are on board with only the gay lobby, and not the gay community?
As opposed to what... The Republican party, which is on board with NEITHER? Which won't touch gay lobby money with a 10 foot pole strapped to a 10 foot pole strapped to a tiny, homophobic intern from Yale?
Sullivan's bending so far backwards to justify his Republicanism that I can see his asshole. Hey Andrew: I'm not even gay and that offends me. Imagine what real gays think of you.
@Pope John Peeps II: When was the last time you read Sullivan? He still calls himself a "conservative," but he gave up on the Republican party long ago. He voted for Obama.
@Fuzzy Dunlop: True, but he built his career around embracing the Republican standpoint, which meant holding his tongue a lot over their treatment of his community. And he STILL identifies as "conservative", and he STILL targets "Democratic" politics as being anti-gay. Not both left and right, but ONLY left. ONLY Obama.
He's still duplicitous and deceiving because he generally refuses to call out the "Conservative" side of things. If you think Sullivan is anything but a panderer, well... he has yet to prove that to me. I still think that at heart he's a die-hard supporter of the Republican party and Conservative status quo politics.
And yeah, you have the right to complain about Obama's not pushing the gay agenda. But frankly, the democratic party is way, WAY more accepting of the gay lobby than the republican party.
@Pope John Peeps II: That's it. You've nailed Andrew Sullivan completely. God bless you.
Andrew Sullivan is an odd man. Whenever he supports liberal policies, his supporting arguments are always based on facts, statistics, and appeals to the better nature of humankind (and, okay, an irrational obsession with Sarah Palin). Whenever he supports a conservative position, he always starts talking about some 18th-century Christian philosopher.
Anyway, even though I agree with him in theory about this, one: he obviously enjoys the prestige that can easily be gained in Washington that comes from presenting both parties as equally immoral, and two: it's difficult to listen to Sullivan talk about equal rights when he consistently defends the idea that some races are inherently more intelligent than others.
I have an idea. Someone post this on Craigslist's missed connections board:
"To the tall, handsome black man I saw campaigning last year. We made eye contact, and I thought you smiled at me, but maybe that was for the person taking a photo of you behind me. We started talking about how much you loved my vest (Express $49.99) Was there something between us or am I imaging things? If interested, tell me what color shirt I was wearing (Hint: salmon!) Maybe we can get together and pass a few laws."
@pureblarney: Cute dog. Perhaps he should join the legislative branch of our government, along with the other members of congress holding up action on gay rights legislation.
George Carlin's famous observation that "the people who are against abortion are always the ones no one wants to fuck in the first place" apparently holds true for Jew/Gay Haters as well.
I think that love from God they claim to feel is actually God's pity and regret...
