@WackoJacko: The part where the fuzzy thing mixed with this adds up to: "The Killing of a Chinese Wookie"!

Also, Cassavetes is excellent! Much better than Altman and very underrated in that regard.

Shame on you for not agreeing with my movie tastes! #kanyewest

All I see is a sad man... I'm not trying to be a Kanye sympathizer, but it looks to me like he's got some issues to work out (like the death of his mom, who he was apparently quite close to). Just sayin... I guess it doesn't justify being an ass, but still, depression (or whatever he has) is hard - no matter who you are.

@Conchie Birdie: Yeah, as far as keeping loose tabs on the celebrity-industrial complex goes, I'd say that even casually keeping up with Kanye reveals that he is at an exceptionally complicated point in his life right now. When I dealt with depression in the past, I turned inward and sought treatment rather than lashing out at others. Having said that, all people digest pain differently, and his blogging, as uncouthe as it might be, may be the one thing keeping him head over water. I wish he would disappear for six months and sort himself out, though, because remembering how optimistic he made me about hip-hop's intellectual future when he debuted, and seeing him over the last two years- talk about deflating. The man introduced me to Lupe Fiasco though (and, laughably, to Justice as well), so I guess I can never truly hate him.

@ampersandparade: Kanye made me optimistic as well, and I, too, was introduced to Lupe through his music (Lupe was amazing at outside lands in sf last year). The arrogance facade/lashing out can only last so long, so let's hope he has enough self-awareness (like you and I have) to get it together.

the movie was beautifully shot but the script was boring and borderline irritating. the scenes without dialogue were the best. i would have loved it had it just been narrated using the original text with the soundtrack in the back. and james gandolfini as carol...could not get tony soprano out of my mind...so distracting. i went to a matinee and the kids there seemed to really enjoy it though.

sidenote, but rather nepotistic that soup is writing for gawker now...aren't he and blakeley running neighborhoodr together? if i'm wrong then i apologize. but even still, i don't see how someone who won "best use of reblogging" on tumblr and has a handful of columns on mediaite is all of a sudden writing for gawker. #wherethewildthingsare

I saw this movie this weekend with my husband and 11 year-old son. My son and I cried at the end, when Max saw the destruction he had caused and decided to leave, as did most of the people around me.

I thought it was clever - Carol=Max, and the Wild Things were simply a way for Max to work out his anger and resentment of his father (WK) leaving. At the end, he saw his actions in those of the Wild Things, and went home more at peace. Interesting to note that that was also how my son interpreted this movie. He initially did not want to go (it's a baby movie!), but ended up loving it, even though it was not about baseball (gawd forbid something not be about baseball, ya know.) #wherethewildthingsare

WTWTA was my VERY favorite childhood book, and my mom would read to me from her copy from the 1960s. She and I went to the movie together Saturday morning. Say what you want about hipsters (I will too...) but I loved the movie and how the difficult challenge of putting emotions and human characteristics to the wild things that had neither in the book was carried out. They represented Max, his loneliness, frustration, confusion, and his energy, optimism and disappointment. Though I wouldn't say this movie is good for under 10 yrs old, for my generation, kids who grew up reading this book over and over again and who now have the experience of problems, disappointment, loneliness and optimism of our own, it is a thoughtful and cinematically gorgeous movie.

I found the movie to be very much in line with Jonze's other movies where it uneasily mixed wacky imagery and acrobatic camerawork with characters who have chronic black clouds over their heads. "Wild" is still a bold experiment that didn't always gel but it had a good payoff at the end. I wonder how better the movie would've been if Jonze's old pal Charlie Kaufman co-wrote the script instead of Dave Eggers. #wherethewildthingsare

There was an editorial about WTWTA that summed up my feelings about the book. I don't know any kids who like it but I know tons of adults who go all gooey whenever it's mentioned. The movie is the same thing. Spike Jonze made if for people like him. Nothing wrong with that but I kept hoping John Malcovich would show up. #wherethewildthingsare

@topsy: I don't know. WTWTA was a favorite for both my kids when they were of pre-K age, although part of our reading experience was acting out the rumpus -- stomping our feet, waving our arms and gnashing our terrible teeth. Good fun before bedtime.

In The Night Kitchen is our real family favorite though. #wherethewildthingsare

My 12 year old son said the music "sucked". Not into Arcade Fire. Said it would have been better with "AC/DC or something". HMMM.
The 9 year old daughter said the message of the movie was "if you ever leave home, really bad things will happen to you". hmmm.
I thought it was beautifully shot, but didn't love it. It was a little too hipster/depressing/after-school-special. #wherethewildthingsare
