Why Steve Jobs's Health Matters to Us |

Okay, if the SEC thinks it's important, it's important. 'Nuff said.

That should be a "duh" level assumption, but I'm quoting the freaking Mayo Clinic page if anyone is even thinking otherwise. Because I don't see anyone screaming over this news, and they should be.
The Apple cover-up on this is amazing. Amazingly bad. Some "common bug" he has. Thanks for continuing to pursue this story, Owen.

"the curiosity over my personal health continues to be a distraction not only for me and my family, but everyone else at Apple as well."
What's not to understand? The man is clearly ill and it has become a huge distraction for him, his family, and Apple. Unfortunately, Steve has a responsibility to Apple employees and shareholders. He knew this when he took Apple public.
Peronally, I think we are all in denial about what is truely happening here and we are grieving. Let's all remember everyone grieve's differently. The guy did the right thing. Let's cut everyone some slack and give the poor guy some peace.

IT DOESN'T!!
Steve Jobs is a TERRIBLE ROLL MODEL - An Arrogant Self-Centered Narcissistic Bastard who was always horrible to most of his employees, treated then like shit and gouged all you AppleTards with Price Fixed Over-Priced products and software. He stole ideas for products from other developers and companies, and then claimed the fresh ideas as his ... he was an iCON, the Great iNOvator.
Get a like you MacTards, as much as all of you resemble Stevie Gods in arrogance, 95% of the world will not miss him .... OR YOU. You are an insignificant niche.

So yeah, Jobs is everything you've said, but Apple's products? Peerless.

As familial as you might think you and the rest of the world is to Steve Jobs, you're not his family, and he's not your dad. He doesn't have to sit you down and tell you he's got cancer, and you're crazy to think you have a right to know.
One more thing... If he *were* family to you, you'd be quite the asshole for writing to thousands of your followers whining about how Dad won't be up front with you about his health status.
Or are all Gawker readers your family, too?

The other difference between the two - do you think as many people would care, at such a deep level, if Bill Gates caught the big "C" and left before his time?
01/16/09
Well, I guess from the public's reaction, that really is all it takes.

Also, the never-ending stream of posts abt Steve's health should stop now. It's beyond distasteful.

If they bought stock in the company because of him, that was their choice. He didn't ask them to do it. If they now don't like what they're hearing about his health, they're free to sell. Again, he's not asking for them not to.
All he owes anybody as CEO of the company is his best efforts to generate profit, or to step aside if he feels he can't. He's done both of those things now. Whether this temporary leave becomes permanent at some point is something we'll just have to see, but he certainly does not owe anybody more of an explanation than he's already provided.
Deep down, I think these supposed "investors" know this too, and I agree with this post that there's more to this fascination than simple business.

If you own shares in Apple and consider Jobs a "vital" "material" key to the success of the company, you have had more than ample time to sell your shares while rumors bounced around the internet. The mere acknowledged fact that he had pancreatic cancer should have sent you fleeing (have you seen the odds?), even though his current health problems seem to have nothing to do with a recurrence of cancer.
I don't see where he has run afoul of securities laws. He seems as mystified by his health problems as his doctors.
The man is entitled to his privacy.

(Like CEOs who say "Everything's fine, the earnings are going to be great" and then declare bankruptcy two days later.)
Nothing like that happened at Appple. Something very much like that happened at Enron. I'm sure you know that.
