I can't even believe that how a president throws a ball is regarded as important in this country. I mean, I know it is, it's just that. . . oh, nevermind.
Eeesshh, I love him. But the whiteman overbite coupled with the moonball toss equates to his worst PR outing since the gutterball. Although he did acquit himself well later in the broadcast when dropping enough -- but not too much -- MLB knowledge with Buck and McCarver in the booth. Obama also deftly handled Buck's crack about bailing out the Nationals. All things considered, I'll take it. 1000x -- I will take it.
Free Republic posters are saying Obama's goons ordered the bad camera angle to save face in case he doofed the pitch. Then they started bitching about spineless MSM pussies folding under White House pressure, including Fox just this one time, apparently. Then a reddish goo started seeping out of my eyes and ears and I had to stop reading Free Republic.
@onebadclam: your desire to read FR, mirrors my own need to watch fox news' preeminent philosophers hannity/o reilly. More often than not, I'm cursing at the screen or flipping channels but one must keep abreast of the enemy's innermost thoughts even if they barely make sense.
@onebadclam: Really? That's all we're getting out of FR on this? I was expecting a campaign to have Selig throw out the result of the game on grounds that Obama's not really president.
The sad thing is, Bush trained for this. Because he basically fucked around for eight years in office, practicing his ceremonial first pitches, mountain biking, Segwaying, invading countries he knew nothing about and groping other world leaders. Barry should have flipped the ball to Pujols from about five feet away, told all those steroid babies to get off the juice and motored.
@Anna: She should be investigated for torturing her metaphors. Also, is there more than a little bit of wistfulness in all that masculinity baiting? I'm betting her conservative lover leaves more than a little to be desired in the man dept.
@Anna: Yeah, soccer? When has Obama said two words about soccer? I guess someone should remind the writer that they play basketball in Europe, too. Kind of a lot.
@Lazy Susan: None. But I was riffing on Bush's apparent lack of international knowledge (an issue in the 2000 campaign, as I recall). .So the syllogism would be:
Excerpt from Obama's letter to FIFA endorsing the U.S. bid for the World Cup:
"Hosting another successful World Cup is important for the continued growth of the sport in the United States. And it is important to me personally," President Obama wrote in his letter. "As a child, I played soccer on a dirt road in Jakarta, and the game brought the children of my neighborhood together. As a father, I saw that same spirit of unity alive on the fields and sidelines of my own daughters’ soccer games in Chicago."
"Soccer is truly the world’s sport, and the World Cup promotes camaraderie and friendly competition across the globe," President Obama added. "That is why this bid is about much more than a game. It is about the United States of America inviting the world to gather all across our great country in celebration of our common hopes and dreams."
@NatashaVC: Oy. 7even For All Mankind is gonna take this mufuh all the way to the UN Sec. Gen for his grievances against the Denim Nation (now sovereign from the Rhythm Nation; it's an East Berlin/West Berlin thing).
@Scott Kidder: Yeah there was boing, and I doubt it was for the White Sox jacket. After all, the entire American League line-up was announced and there wasn't one boo-bird.
@Scott Kidder: I heard booing as well. I'm born and raised in St. Louis (hence the 63136) but I can recall going to baseball games in the late 80s, all the way through the 90s (I'm 25) and recalling that booing, no matter the reason, was RATHER frowned upon and seen as unsportsman-like. My father was most DEFINITELY not having it. St. Louis disappoints me in this aspect - as well as others. :(
@SynicVance2.0: Nobody in the stadium would expect that the players would not wear their own uniforms. Some of the local fans were likely disappointed that he didn't wear a Cardinals jacket or jersey.
@DeadFred:Well, I didn't watch the game, but it wouldn't surprise me to hear some yahoos booing any President of the United States, no matter who it was. That's the state of the nation we live in. Sad.
These same morons were probably calling people America-hating commies for booing President Cheney just last year. Why not just golf-clap the people you don't like, and see how that works out.
Cajun Boy, I can only assume that you have never worked in the New York art gallery world. I see your self important a-holes and raise you 6,000 anorexic, alcoholic, black-clad medusas (medusi?) of both sexes, give or take a thousand once Larry Gagosian gets done killing and eating what remains of his staff.
I was always wondering: why US-ians are so obsessed about one-dimensional linear numerical orderings? No other culture that I'm aware of spends so much time compiling and discussing linearly ordered rankings.
Bill O'Reilly is ranked higher on the "Power Grid" than Ann Curry. An unabashed racist and intolerant ratings-grabber with an incredibly dangerous view of the world around him, ranked higher than Ann Curry.
@croush1211: This is the sort of thing that pisses me off about the media in general and web 2.0 specifically: the conflation of the popular with the good. Just because a lot of people are watching Bill O'Reilly, it doesn't make him worth listening to. Why can't mediaite supply the context in which these ratings occur? Oh, because that would take effort, and passion, and would likely render all of the rankings as ridiculous as the ones you pointed out.

Bush invades countries he knows nothing about.
Bush knows nothing about any foreign country.
Therefore, Bush invades the rest of the world.
Ahem, so now I have to explain my jokes.
