i am no anti semite. my boyfriend is half jewsih and he laughed out loud when i told him some people found the use of the term "JAP" offensive. it is no more offensive than "WASP" to me. every single person i asked and I asked a roomful of people most of whom were jewish in my homewtown of roslyn long island if they thought the term "JAP" was offensive and each and every one of them said the term was used jokingly and not offensively amongst themselves and even among their children.

i'm not willing to back off just because a few people on this site are looking to pick a fight over complete nonsense

a few of my friends added that anyone who finds offense at that term is ill equipped to function in the real world. if that is enough to ruffle your feathers i find it hard to believe you have enough backbone to hold down a job or otherwise deal with real life situations.

if you trivialize real prejudice by equating harmless use of a harmless term with real prejudice you are the one causing more harm than good not i

i just asked a FEMALE friend of mine who is the granddaughter of SIMON WIESENTHAL the natzi hunter (she lives in westchester) and she agreed with me that JAP is not a derogatory term--it is meant merely as a joke from one person to another--it was never meant as a racial slur--it was always used in jest

and as the granddaughter of SIMON WIESENTHAL she also emphatically agreed with me that anyone claiming that the joking use of the term JAP is anti-semitic trivializes anti semitism.

nothing makes me more disgusted than people who try to claim prejudice on false grounds. when that happens at my workplace the people making the false accusations are the ones that called out.

i guess i only took offense because like most people i like to think of myself as a morally upright and completely unprejudiced person so when seriously and booklatkelish labelled me as anti-semitic for a completely innocent use of the term JAP (instead of taking the time to explain to me that while it might have been a harmless term used jokingly in my own mostly jewish community it is offensive to others) i took offense because i think it is wrong to too loosely label someone as prejudiced when they are not

so i guess i made the mistake of thinking you were too quick to label me as something i am not

in any case i don't plan to post to this site again

seems like a small number of people have hijacked the ability to post comments on this site which is usually the final death knell of a site

i remember wonkette was similarly hijacked by a small number of commenters and wonkette is now mostly dead. hopefully this site wont suffer the same fate although it seems inevitable

but i would like to say i never meant to be rude or offend anyone
