David Sacks, brainy chief operating officer of Paypal, is cruel. After the online payment service was sold to eBay, he took his winnings, and moved to Hollywood, into the pad in which Uma Thurman overdosed, in the movie Pulp Fiction. Like the other rich guys who decide to have some fun in the movie industry, Sacks was supposed to fund lame movies, sleep with desperate actresses, until all his money ran out, and then die of an overdose. Instead, his very first feature, Thank You For Smoking, has just been nominated for a Golden Globe award. And, to rub salt in the wounds, having made Hollywood success look so ridiculously easy, Sacks is now planning to shift his attention back to the tech industry.
