Anwan Glover, who played Slim Charles on The Wire, was reportedly stabbed multiple times early Sunday at Cafe Asia in Washington. After falling to the floor, he was stabbed once more in the torso before being taken to George Washington University Hospital.

The actor's account of the attack, from The Wrap:

Glover told police that he was on the second floor of the restaurant Cafe Asia when an unknown person punched him. He turned to face his assailant, and another person hit him on the back of the head, causing him to slip on the wet floor, he told police. Glover said that after he had been kicked multiple times, he heard a voice shout, "He has a knife," and felt a sharp pain in his right side.

According to WJLA, Glover, 41, is also known as Big G, and heads the Backyard Band. He posted the following to his Instagram today:

As many of you are aware, i was involved in an incident last night. While supporting another band, at their show, I was involved in an altercation with some unknown people. While defending myself, I was stabbed. I was hospitalized and have been released. I am not a stranger to adversity and when shown hate, I'm going to spread love. I am recovering and will be back soon. My flesh may be stabbed but my spirit is unbreakable. I want to thank all of my fans, followers and friends for their inquiries, well wishes, prayers and love. I love you all back and I'm always going to love my city. - G #FYI- I lost my phone and will get my new one tomorrow. Much love Anwan Big G Glover
