I really don't understand people who are against things because of their religion. The government is not forcing people to get abortions, have gay marriages, or watch a John Waters film. The nation isn't comprised of people of a single religion, and a lot of people don't even believe in God, so why can't they just live their life to their moral code and raise their kids to their moral code and just leave everyone else out of it. Stop playing missionary because it's never going to happen. I think it makes sense to be against things because of your religion. I, for example, would not have an abortion because of my religious beliefs. I am also against the death penalty because of my religion. Faith transcends law in my case - even though things are legal in a secular sense, they are prohibited by my faith.

But like you said, I recognize that not everyone shares my religious beliefs or even believes in God, which is why law should remain secular in its basis. The following of a religion and its mandates is a personal choice and cannot be legislated. #crosstalk

Here's what I'd really like to know. If this woman's daughter does conceive and is forced to carry to term, will Hilton raise the child? Because with cognitive abilities of an 8 year old, it doesn't really seem too likely that the daughter is going to be capable. Or will Hilton force her daughter to give the child up for adoption, thereby abdicating responsibility for this child to the welfare and foster care system? And lets face it, yes there is the possibility that the child will be a beautiful bouncing baby, but there equally exists the possibility that a baby with such a history and genetic background might be unadoptable. And Elise Hilton should be thinking about that too. If she truly believes what she is selling, than she should be the only one who raises that child. #crosstalk

I saw you posted that earlier and was definitely intrigue. I have a smattering of knowledge about some of this stuff, as I may or may not be dating someone in the field. He doesn't love talking about it (and I don't blame him), so I try not to ask, but we have talked in the past about the differences between medical examiners and coroners, and how fucked up the politicization of coroner's offices is.

That's one of the most frustrating parts of the story. It sounds like Chicago's had a lot of problems, so clearly there is more going on, but you can never disregard the lack of funding as a significant contributor to the problem. The morgue is probably one of the poster children for "publicly funded services that you take for granted until things stop running smoothly."

ETA: and I'll mention it to him. :) He really, really keeps work pretty separate, so I may have to fly solo watching it, but I'll let you know when I do!

Yes, yesterday they emailed I'd get to give books. Cute email telling me not to gloat so I'm trying to contain my excitement! Signed up for Hunger Games but apparently, so did everyone else. They may be sending me my second choice, either A Prayer For Owen Meany or Enders Game.(I can't remember.)
Thank you again for this recommend! I do quite a bit of community stuff with kids and will cherish this opportunity to turn them on to a good book.
