Banking for pot shops eyed in Colorado Colorado is leading the way with medical marijuana. This article claims it has already resulted in 20 million in state and local taxes and is employing as many as 10,000. UK Conservative Cabinet member Baroness Warsi says Britain under threat from militant secularists: [www.bbc.co.uk]
This is particularly odd because Baroness Warsi is Muslim, but apparently she thinks Europe needs to be "more confident and more comfortable in its Christianity." I'm not sure if I prefer to believe that she is desperate to rise further in the Conservative Party, or that she is insane.
The first profoundly deaf person elected to New Zealand parliament has been told that she must pay for any extra staff she requires to assist her with electronic note-taking.
The movie "Act of Valor" premiered in Hollywood tonight at the Arclight - but no one knew that was why there was an explosion in Hollywood and balls of fire in the sky. Needless to say, Hollywood was freaked out - see reaction on Twitter here:
So it was apparently Navy SEALS doing the skydiving and they even had Tim Tebow walking the red carpet. But it was almost the night the lights went out in Hollywood. #tips
Sure it has been tipped already, but still a big deal. Dirty Jerz moving forward with marriage for all, setting up what should be a fun/sad battle with his highness "Emperor" Sandwiches who said he would veto this. #tips
Fox News readers aren't racist. Not one bit. How dare the librul media make such libelous accusations? Just look at how they mourned the passing of Whitney Houston:
You know, I supported Barack Obama over Hillary Clinton in part because I thought America was ready for a black President. Not meaning, "It's about time we had a black President!" but that Americans could handle seeing someone different in the White House than we've had before. But, to my chagrin, no. No, America couldn't handle it. I always knew that America was racist, but I thought it was primarily racist in a fairly ignorant, "I don't know many black people" way. No. No, the American right wing-- a full 30-40% of the country-- is just full out racist, racist, racist, KKK and stormfront admiring bigots. The worst part is that half of the people posting there are probably poor-assed meth users. #crosstalk
That comment about only famous black people dying from drugs made me think of a lot of caucasian professional wrestlers. Doubt any commenter there brought that up. #crosstalk(Edit comment)
Besides being gobsmacked at what vile bodies these readers are, I also found myself hoping that that comment section is NOT moderated. If it is moderated and that visual assault was the result of separating the wheat from the chaff or of weeding out the bad seeds, then America is well and truly fecked. (Edit comment)
Fox's commenting system apparently automatically parses comments for the n-word and other profanities, hence the ubiquitous pairs of q's replacing pairs of g's. The comments on that post have since been disappeared down the memoryhole, as so often happens when the toxic sludge leaks out of the conservative bubble (just sweep it up underneath the carpet and forget it ever happened):
Nevertheless, a quick perusal of the comments on Fox's other Whitney Houston-related posts shows the racists have been undeterred and are continuing to spew their hideous, irrational, foaming-at-the-mouth hatred for this women. If Fox News had any dignity as an organization, they would address this and apologize.
It's real and that was link to a conservative website. Even they were appalled.
Fox has since deleted the comments associated with that post, but the racists have simply moved onto other Whitney-related posts. The line dividing Fox News commenters and Stormfront commenters is becoming less and less discernible.
Good for Little Green Footballs for exposing such reprehensibility and, by extension, irresponsibility. He has gained a fan in me to be sure.
It is really ironic because I was so heartened by some truly beautiful comments yesterday -- on this site and elsewhere -- about Whitney Houston's effect on people. One story stuck in my mind. A woman wrote about being primary care-giver for her best friend who was dying of AIDS way back in 1985. Her friend knew full well he was dying but drew great comfort from Whitney's music, especially "The Greatest Love of All" which he would sing at the top of his lungs -- as if he were invincible, as if nothing or no one could touch him. I choose to believe that Whitney's music transcended racial barriers but your link (which I thank you for) has convinced me otherwise and left me feeling that there really are two Americas -- and not just in terms of rich-vs.-poor, 1%-vs.-99%. #tips
It's almost as if they have a different auricular anatomy - different ears - than other people. I always thought that, regardless of whether someone was a fan of the type of music that Whitney sang, it could be agreed upon that her voice was objectively beautiful. The comments of admiration and sadness on Whitney's YouTube videos (not exactly a place known for tact and amiability) came from all parts of the world in many, many languages. I guess perception overwhelms and warps our senses more than we realize. In the case of the above comments, hatred can evidently make even the most beautiful things seem ugly. (Edit comment)
Good points, every one of them. Though never much of a fan in the true and ardent senses of the word, I (also) never had a problem regarding Whitney as one of the greats of modern-day music. And, being quite familiar with the normally low calibre of YouTube commentary, I have to say it is really saying something that their commentariat found it in themselves to rise to the occasion while it was just another day in the Fox News commenter cesspool. Ugh to the nth power. (Edit comment)
Fox News' Liz Trotta On Women Raped In Military: 'What Did They Expect? These People Are In Close Contact' (VIDEO)
Trotta also alleged that "feminists" have demanded too much money to fund programs for sexual abuse victims. "You have this whole bureaucracy upon bureaucracy being built up with all kinds of levels of people to support women in the military who are now being raped too much," she said.
My favorite part is when she objects to the assertion that people in the military should be protected from anything. Yes ma'am. We are actually just cannon fodder to prevent you from being attacked by those scary moose-lams. Just so offensive to every group she is discussing. Listening to her talk about how she thinks the military operates is mind numbing. I sit through around 30 Hours of Sexual Assault and Harassment training a year and I couldn't be happier about the military taking the problem so seriously. #tips(Edit comment)
