According to police, a man shot and killed his wife, an employee of the Deaconess Hospital cancer center in Spokane, Wash., before turning the gun on himself early Tuesday. The couple have two children.
"This is an apparent domestic violence incident," Spokane police spokeswoman Monique Cotton told the Associated Press. According to KREM, the woman was apparently seeking a restraining order against her husband:
Spokane Police officials said the shooting appeared to be domestic violence-related. The female victim worked at the hospital, according to authorities. People who knew the victim indicated she was getting a restraining order against her husband because of threats and other problems.
The man reportedly surprised his wife in a lab area on the hospital's seventh floor. Witnesses told KREM that they heard six gunshots. Police told the news station that the shooting was "cold" and "targeted," and "carried out execution-style."
The woman died instantly; doctors attempt to resuscitate the husband before he died in the emergency room.
