Many people wondered "what the hell can Jess Coen do after Gawker?" Sometimes it was even said in a sneering way, like when you're pissed off that the deli dumbass put mayo on your sandwich, but now we know the answer: VANITY FUCKIN' FAIR, that's what. How sweet is that? Like a diabetic mainlining Splenda, that's how. Proof that you CAN shit where you eat - a New York motto if I ever heard one.

But who comes out of this looking the best? Let's explore that question by grading the Gawker Departures.

*Choire Sicha, blogging's Homo ergaster, shifted seats to launch Sploid. (Read that last part again. OK, one more time.) Fortunately that was brief and he headed home to his favorite womb, the NY Observer. While it's print (dinosaur eggs, people) he does maintain an online presence even if it's less than we'd like. He will always be "THE" Gawker - more than anyone he made the brand what it is today. B- (Sploid stint brings it down.)

*Matt Haber left because...wait, why did he leave? Probably woke up one day and said fuck it. He ended up at NYO as well. Matt was awesome because he refused to acknowledge his status as a full-time Gawker Media employee. Longest stint ever as a guest editor. You'd be hard pressed to find someone else who cares so little what others think about him. C+ (See, he won't mind that at all.)

*Jesse Oxfeld was in like a lion and out like a lamb. Or maybe he's out like a lion? I dunno, either way he's gay. He was booted mainly because Denton woke up one day and said fuck it. Landing at New York magazine as online editor was the best move he could ever make. A-

*Elizabeth Spiers, ahhhh, the snarkosphere's Yoda. Seriously, she has the last laugh on everyone. Rumors persist that her post-Gawker life include being fired from NY mag and Mediabistro but these are lies dammit, filthy lies that have no foundation with on-the-record fact. So step OFF, motherfuckers! In one of the boldest Machiavellian moves ever, she tricked the pony (shot it actually) and started her own blogging empire known as Dead Horse Media. You probably spend half your day on a DHM blog and don't even know it. Is she a sell-out like other Gawker alumni? Hell no. Fuck the mainstream press, she's bringing it back to her roots - blogging. Does she have time to blog? That's a hell no too. She did her squat in the trenches, dues were paid and she earned that velcro-banded gold watch. Now the best use of her time is coaching others. A++++++++, very prompt, pleasure to do business with!
