FSeven is factually and actually wrong. 30% of Montclair's population is black. The income level ranges from upper class to lower class. (Yes, the houses on the hill with the NYC view cost more.) FSeven expresses the chip-on-the-shoulder attitude and ignorance found in the Archie Bunker class: anyone who knows something you don't is an elitist, condescending, showy, snob. Whether you actually are or not. One of the nice things about Montclair is you won't find much of that here but, horrors, you may actually find mature, educated people who work hard & smart enough to have a high income.

I live next door in Bloomfield.

Montclair is about as diverse as 1930's Germany.

It's a very racist and elitist town. The property taxes (which are over 13,000 a year) ensure that it remains such.

Sure there are a few non-white families who live there but they are the exception to the rule.

People live in Montclair to say 'I live in Montclair'. If you want to raise some children of your own as spoiled, racist, elitist little snobs, Montclair will welcome you with open arms.

Don't forget about the managing editor of Ladies' Home Journal. even though few people on either coast subscribe, it's still the fifth-largest magazine in the US.

Also, there may not be many Times columnists who are little league coaches in Montclair, but there is at least one Magnum photographer who is.
