I have a year old boy. When he was born, I was on the fence about circumcision but my husband wanted it b/c he wanted the kid to "look like him" down there. WHY oh WHY men bring this up as a reason to do this I will never know. Like when is this "family resemblance" situation EVER going to be relevant anyway? It's not like you're walking down the street and people are going see anything, like a nose or eye color, right?

Anyway, because he felt so strongly about it, I said okay.

Well I think it was the biggest fucking mistake I ever made in my life because I felt so guilty. The kid was screaming his head off as if he was wounded b/c when we got home b/c the stupid GAUZE fell off. Because it's a wound they leave when they lop it off. The kid stayed up all night and so did I, despite my post labor exaustion. My husband however tuned it out and slept right through the screaming, which pretty much tells you how the first several months of our new family life was like dynamicwise, but that's another story for another time.

The irony is that I think they were kind of conservative with the lopping off process so maybe it will grow back? I don't know about these things, I'm a girl.

Incidentally, only in the US people get circumcised for non-religious reasons. Other countries don't even have a "circumcision rate".
