They bragged about have a food column called "Eat" but hired some of the most underfed models in the business. They thought they were cool and ironic by putting people like Paris on the cover when in fact, they just seemed like Cosmo Jr. for the Urban Outfitters set. They tried way too hard to seem "indie" and "cool". If I want calculated hipness, I'd buy Nylon.

I couldn't agree with your more. I was a loyal Sassy and Jane reader, and once Jane Pratt left, the mag changed for the worse. I didn't renew my subscription and have no regrets about that. It felt like everyone there was trying too hard to be trendy or edgy.
While it sucks for people to get laid off, life goes on and there are more jobs out there. Take the summer off and enjoy yourself.
