As a former Atlantic employee (not the magazine itself, another publication) and onetime regular imbiber of Bradley-procured booze, this is disappointing. The holiday parties are much better. There the celebrities stand around talking to each other while the rest of us stand around talking to each other nearby. Works fine! It's also in DC. Why on Earth was this party in NYC? I can't sneak in so easily if it's up there.

Five days later, and that 150th anniversary party The Atlantic threw for itself last week -- the one where regular people were allowed to watch from the cheap seats while the real guests mingled on stage -- is still getting made fun of. Gawker called it "the social disaster of the season.&

Wow mdash; last night's 150th Anniversary party for the Atlantic magazine is sure taking heat for being weird and exclusive, owing to its high-concept theme of "Party As Performance Art" wherein the actual party took place on a stage...before a live audience.

I was there, and it was a fun event (if you were on stage, I suppose). Amazing to hear Patti Smith. Unfortunately, there was some chick from jossip who insisted on chatting throughout her entire set. (Like: where were these people raised?) A blogger, of course.

I was at this party last night(and onstage) and I can tell you the "cocktails'' consisted of awful, watered down wine and the food was inedible. Left after like 10 mins, in search of dinner, unaware of the social apartheid taking place in my midst. I would've given away the red bracelet they gave out to the "haves'' in a second, had I known there were people clamoring to get into this idiotic event.
