On the contrary, I wasn't saying that you were stopping anyone from doing this -- I meant that such great posts could be seen as a "see what you're missing" salvo from departing writers. I don't know the writers; all I know is that the quality of the site and their writing is phenomenal ever since they decided to quit.

But really we're kind of saying the same thing, which is: this is high-quality stuff and it would have been great to have this all along.

The posts this week have been truly amazing and informative, and there are a lot getting 6,000+-page views. Not only am I enjoying them as a reader, but it's also really encouraging that it's not the cheap sensationalist Britney Spears trash that is creating the influx of page views and -- not incidentally -- some really interesting commenter discussions.

Actually, more seriously, the writers on Gawker should quit more often, because today's stories -- on Mediabistro's Touby and the capitalist oppression of Viacom's permalancer underclass -- were were actually pretty damned good.
