The reason: the Hamptons are cold, wet, and too far from civilization even by today's standards. And frankly, the beaches suck. One more thing. Yo, millionaires, buying those big mansions on the dunes? Ever wonder why 10 or 11 generations of previous residents never built on the beach? Because it's wet, cold, dunes are not exactly your most stable platform to build on, and everything that doesn't blow down in the fall nor'easters blows down in the March storms. Oh, and enjoy your insurance bills.
