I'm going with Gawker's hed on this one. Taibbi is impressed with himself to the extent that nobody else has to be. His political coverage is an excuse to showcase his half-assed antics, in which he comes off less like Hunter S. Thompson, and more like Lewis Black with a sperm pie. I far prefer those who, Funions or not, spend their time making phone calls and FOIA requests, instead of renting gorilla suits.

Taibbi was gonzo as an expat. Now he's just runnin desk and mouth over at RS. Entertaining, yes. Irrelevant? Nah. Gonzo? Oy.
