You come to New York, you have no money and you're in "the arts," which could be anything you put on paper or on the air or the stage, and in "the arts" nothing happens quite as you planned. Most of the good stuff that happens to you is serendipitous, and it's very easy for one day you can't pay the rent but you're at Elaine's (or the Waverly Inn) with a bunch of people and more or less out of nowhere you can watch this guy's apartment while he's in London. And this happens and that happens and you've moved in with him but then he's off to Morocco and his friend Alan who'se really fun to be with wouldn't mind company on a trip to Martinique and one day you look up and you're a hooker.

That read like her blog, didn't it? I think what I'm trying to do is point out that in this city of ours you can go from best intentions to bad girl real fast and wind up sitting on a rickety chair in Bryant Park debating ethics with yourself. From what I've seen of this girl she's not so bad. I've seen a lot worse. She's one of those who fell into it, I bet.
