The question "How dare Facebook project its conception of Israeli-Palestine relations onto to their users' virtual identity?" is meant to be rhetorical: but it isn't. This is how it should dare to do so: settlements in the West Bank are illegal according to international law. I think it is sad that a kid in Ariel who didn't choose to live there grows up and suddenly finds out that he can't choose his location as "Ariel, Israel": but that's a coming of age dilemma that comes with living in communities that are established on land that belongs to another people. Maybe they need a support group: "I thought I lived in Israel but it turns out I live in Palestine."

Facebook should have kept its old policy of calling those areas like the Green Line calls 'em.

And Jewlicious, while ingesting hummus in Ramallah does not confer political soothsaying abilities, meeting with the many people trying to sort out the very, very problematic and tense Fatah-Hamas divide might (and what do I know, maybe that's just what you were doing over lunch). They definitely need all the help they can get; recently a friend who is part of a joint Israeli-Palestinian initiative said in frustration, "It's gotten so bad that the Fatah guys find it easier to talk to Israelis than to talk to their fellow Palestinians in Hamas."

3asl

This is like that Monopoly contest looking for new cities. Jerusalem was one of the cities vying for inclusion in new international versions of the game and rather than deal with the same issue, Parker Brothers decided to remove the country designations from all the prospective cities. Thus just as Jerusalem, Israel became just Jerusalem, so too did Paris, France become just Paris.

All of this kerfuffle is probably a big waste of time. Based on my time hanging out in Ramallah, it seems to me that a Hamas takeover of the West Bank is inevitable. Once that happens, Hamas is sure to follow in Syria's footsteps and ban that Zuckerberg Jew controlled Facebook anyhow. By the way, the hummus in Ramallah is pretty gosh darn good. I'll miss it.

jewlicious
