I wear comfortable clothes, just because I do mainly, and because it's practical for my job.
I enjoy hiking and camping with my son and husband, and don't get all whiny if my face isn't perfectly made up, my hair gets blown around, or my nails get broken in the process.

I am an insult to my mother, who tried to raise me on ruffles and bows.
She would dress me up in lace and frills for church, then have to pull me out of the tree in our front yard to make me go. I wore dresses with ribbons, ruffles and bows my entire childhood, and swore I never would as an adult.

Do I count as a tomboy? I would prefer to count as a practical woman.

Funny story: I was always a t-shirt and jeans girl until I blew my knee out 4 years ago and had to wear a huge, bulky brace for 6 months. On a more serious note, I see that Moe is already backpedaling on her involvement in this trend piece, and while I find the sentiment admirable (as well as the photography), her workplace is clearly not in the "do-not-care" camp of fashion. Between "Snap Judgment" and "The Good, the Bad, and The Ugly", there's a whole clothing swap's worth of judgeypants over there. It's not hypocritical, but the fact alone is a substantial counterpoint to the Observer piece. Many women do care about fashion, often quite seriously.

All that said, it's not a bad thing to care just a little bit.
