I mostly concur with you on blended scotches: the vast majority are targeted to the lowest common denominator of consumer and are not worth drinking. However, there are a few boutique blends to consider. Remember, bordeaux wines are among the finest wines in the world, and they too are blends. There's no reason why a careful gathering of the best whisky mashes from around Scotland shouldn't produce an exceptional whisky. My personal favorite is Hedonism from Compass Box. I'm pulling it down from the shelf right now. Care to join?

I do enjoy most of the commenters here, sometimes it's annoying when people have their own conversations that have nothiing to do with the posts but it's a free realm here. Plus, this isn't a chatroom where I could invite someone to another room to chat privately.

Honestly, rebecca, all you have to do is look at the NUMBER of comments. The internet brings together people from every social strata and degree of qualification, which includes douches and toenail-savers. If you have a high number of comments you're doing the work of the site by engaging people in your work. I mean, you're not the kind of person who could collect Mein Kampf royalties and still smile and you want to be liked IN your work probably just as much as you want to be noticed FOR your work, but focus on the latter before the former.

Consider the nice comments a bonus, but a volume of comments? That's a raise!

All eight cylinders are not needed and firing to do that. To be admitted among the ranks of some very witty commenters with highly regarded careers makes me feel pretty special. That is something the drudgery of my current position does not do for me. Another large portion of my day is spent sequestered behind a monitor alone; Gawker allows me to feel connected and not so alone when I am. The laughs found around here on a post far surpass TV, Comics, etc-for free! There's even been a fringe benefit where some of us now know each other outside of here and in person. But you changed after Yaddo. Something had hardened within you. Some sort of grim resolve had stiffened. And now Cosima and Sheepshead Bay are forgotten and you are a star on one of the internet's most glamorous webspaces, trading quips and witticisms with all and sundry.

It's a trade-off you willingly and knowingly made. The best you can do is honor it with some grace.
