@heyimtalkinhere: There is a difference between mocking the looks of someone who is held up as a standard of beauty and mocking the looks of someone who belongs to a group that is consistantly denigrated for their looks in a way that is tied to slurs about their identity.

That isn't unfair/inconsistent/double standard because there is a difference in the status of the people being ridiculed. This is the way humor works. When a rich person mocks someone for being poor it is generally not very funny. But the poor can mock the rich. A key aspect of humor is that it challenges structures of power.

I would consider Nixon's girlfriend to be a semi public figure since she's dating a very public figure. It seems more or less accepted on here to comment on someone who is putting their image out there in such a way that they invite ridicule and criticism. I don't really like the SJP mocking, because I think she's beautiful and charming, but we are all being barraged right now with SATC insanity, so I think it's somewhat fair. Her career is based on her image. But someone like Cynthia Nixon's girlfriend, who is not seeking the limelight and just trying to live her life, she doesn't seem to deserve the ridicule.
