I remember the first few seasons of the real world and how cool i thought those kids were in nyc/l.a./london. that first season was great with missy type girl and kevin powell (he's running for congress, really?) who could forget the drunken irishman and the hokie cowboy from L.A. or the guy Neil from London who actually got his tongue bitten off! Granted i was probably only 14 but w/e that shit is hilarious. Maybe the casting peeps will choose more 'real' people than the assholes from the past 15 seasons but probably not. All we can hope for is that some one of them gets the hell beat out of them on Flatbush Ave.

Not so long ago, I lived in a loft on Flatbush Avenue and Gold Street - true Downtown, if you will. Rent under $1000; lecherous, alcoholic, on-premises landlord. The best thing about it - besides the freight elevator and my view of the Brooklyn, Manhattan, Williamsburg and 59th Street Bridges - was my building's proximity to the Jay Street/Borough Hall subway stop which, as you know, is the first major transfer point in Brooklyn for the F and the A. But Downtown Brooklyn is hardly Williamsburg, E. Williamsburg or Bushwick. It's courthouses, MetroTech Centre and the bewildering Fulton Mall. From anywhere, it's an easy walk to at least three Starbucks', a Barnes and Noble and the UA Court Street cineplex. And I don't miss it.

@DorothyMantooth: I lived on South Oxford once. Next to South Portland. Got to it via Myrtle, near the car wash I referenced above. Across from Fort Greene Park. Rooftop access, and a sadly-maintained "backyard". Creaky floors in our three-story brownstone. I miss it so, even the little part of the sidewalk lifted into the air by the massive roots of the massive oak tree.

I'm guessing the penthouse at One Brooklyn Bridge Park makes more sense with all of the scenic views, that building has been looking for publicity for years, along with that entire swath of future park land (which if they'd filmed last summer, they would've gotten a temporary beach and swimming pool barge out of the deal -- where is that moving this summer, again?). A PR guy who specializes in making careers out of Real Worlders suggests some or all of them this year will be campaigning for original Real Worlder Kevin Powell, running for Congress in Brooklyn (with a mailbox home on Montague Street!). It'd bring things full circle for the show and fulfill that election-year MTV idealism streak.

Then again, I'd be perfectly happy seeing them spend the summer living in the new IKEA in Red Hook!
