I know about 1000 people trained in CPR and ACLS (acute cardiopulmonary life support), but maybe 1 in that thousand has had to use it in their lifetime. Only paramedics working the day-to-day job have an expert level of resuscitating someone who is unresponsive.

I'm not familiar with the response time in NY for paramedics, but it is within 5 minutes where I live. Because of the 3-minute difference, it sounds like the masseuse panicked when MKO's people hadn't shown up and then called 911.

I'm not understanding why the masseuse couldn't do the "drug sweep" if that's what was necessary. She didn't have a license to do massage, and there's no license required to flush evidence.

I hold to the theory that he didn't die at his own hand, or by illegal drugs, but probably had a severely weakened system from pneumonia, traveled transatlantic while changing locations for his film and overall exhaustion. That mixed with prescription meds spelled disaster. Worst case scenario for me is that he died of a broken heart.

this is probably not what happened in heath's case, but it's an example: young folks can and do die of pneumonia. with a potentially lethal mix of downers in his system, i wouldn't be surprised if his heart just gave up and stopped.

still, i say, give MK the full interrogation treatment. hot lights, good-cop/bad-cop. she could use a dose of reality.

Also, it's unlikely that pneumonia alone would kill someone in their 20s unless they were just not taking care of their health in any way (i.e. heavy drinking, drug use). I had acute pnuemonia in my 20s and despite being really sick for a week and lethargic for a few months, I was never close to death.

Or, perhaps taking horse-sized dosages of sleeping pills/anti-anxiety meds when you have pneumonia can cause one's body to shut down. And he had to be taking them for rec. use, because people with pneumonia usually have NO trouble sleeping. It knocks you out.

It is just remotely possible that MK and the masseuse were trying to be tasteful and discreet.

It can cause respiratory failure, septic shock, blood poisoning, bacteremia and other situations that can kill you. There are also several kinds of pneumonia and other factors that can make pneumonia deadly.

There is a pneumonia severity index to see what risk level people are at for doctors to use. 10% of hospitalized pneumonia patients will die but that is really skewed by the nearly 30% death rate of people in the higher risk situations/groups.

If you are used to the media following your every move (as the Olsens are) then you know how an exercise in discretion can prevent a media circus. My guess is that MK thought the EMT/security could help or at least assess the situation before sirens started blaring and the flashbulbs started popping. Maybe she thought the situation could be dealt with in private by people that she knew and trusted? I'm sure the Olsens are not squeaky clean and I understand that questions need to be asked but I think you need to take into account the fact that these people don't really inhabit the same world as us. If we were in trouble we would call the police, they effectively have their own police and paramedics on the payroll.
