@Nick Denton: I trust the judge will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that comment is about the phenomenon whereby we *know* there are comments to be read (, laughed at, annoyed by, what have you) because a cruel tally of them is posted on the front page next to a post's headline, but they don't appear for us until sometime later--usually after our refreshing past the point of interest, but all too frequently, after our posting a dumb non-comment just to jiggle the functionality back into working order.

@MercuryPDX: A not explicitly findable FAQ page would be OK -- I feel like that's how it was awhile back, because I remember when I first wanted to comment having to hunt down the "You have to audition, and also, we could execute you at any time" instructions. Otherwise, people would still figure things out with asking and experimenting. I kind of think that forcing people to go just slightly beyond clicking a link and reading a bulleted list keeps our dipshit level lower than other places' on the Internets.
