Thanks for posting Rebecca. I'm not sure who that maggi person is but I have no idea why she is saying that I "peddle" these calls around. I sent this call in twice because a friend suggested I do. I have never sent in any of the telemarketing calls that I have anywhere ever before. Also, to say that I make a hobby of recording, "nervous or unprepared telemarketers" is kind of nuts right? I mean if anything I'm the one who's unprepared. They are calling me at home. I've always said that if telemarketers don't like calling me they should feel free to stop at anytime. I also tell them that the call is being taped a lot of the time. Usually they then ask me why I'm taping it and I say, why not? Then they continue with their sales pitch. Everyone seems to be having a great time.
So anyway, rebecca if you read this - thank you again for posting it.

First, I'm guessing this recording landed in the Tips Inbox the other day from a musician named Teddy Goldstein, who peddles it around every six months or so, hoping for some sap to take the bait. Goldstein makes a hobby of recording nervous or unprepared telemarketers and then posting them on his website. This particular clip is from a recording made several years ago, Rebecca, which you would have known if you'd read the item we did back then on the call. Second, lambasting a newspaper for being a homeless shelter for unemployed New York writers? Well, there goes that bridge. Thirdly, say what you will about the Sun (and I've said plenty, both during and after my three years working there), but DanCooper is spot on, and it's a little hard to reconcile this post with the number of times Gawker has linked to the Sun in the last two weeks-so far, I count six.

I don't have a good feel for the New York Sun's perceived hyper-Zionism because, to the extent that I read it, I do so in the context of reading a lot of other Jewish publications, like Ha'aretz and the Jerusalem Report, for whom Israel's survival being paramount is a given.

But I'm puzzled by this:

You seem to be saying that no one reads the New York Sun while at the same time seeking congratulations for the generosity of spirit you demonstrate by not "making fun" of it.

What sort of points are there to be scored by not making jokes that no one will get?

Isn't the list of publications you might regard as too obscure for ridicule somewhat long?

And were the New York Sun as laughably inconsequential as you present it to be, then why bother bringing it up in the first place?

At first, it seemed like a promising paper, but later on, it lost its appeal. When they raised the price to 50 cents, that was the perfect excuse for me to stop reading it.
