Buried in the Journal's statement, published on Valleywag this morning, is a nugget: that Marc Benioff tried to dodge the newspaper's investigation out of concern for personal safety, not just his own, but his then-fiancee's. It figures. Only something like a groom's protective instincts could explain the sheer madness of the Salesforce CEO's flip-out.

Word is that Lynne Krilich, who married the publicity-mongering web billionaire on the Big Island of Hawaii on June 10th, didn't want their wedding to be a big public affair. Guests did indeed include Silicon Valley notables, and local officials such as Governor Linda Lingle of Hawaii, a recipient of campaign funding from Krilich. But none of that made its way into the press, and they hired a legendarily blind singer to provide the entertainment, according to local gossip boards. Such discretion! It must have been torture for a man who's usually so creepily proud of his celebrity buddies that, even in Republican-hating San Francisco, he put a picture of George Bush on his ego-wall.
