Last night, House Democrats made history as they staged a sit-in meant to pressure Republicans into voting on a stupid, inherently racist gun control bill. And since Speaker Paul Ryan unplugged C-SPAN’s cameras, the world was forced to look on through the fuzzy lens of Periscope and its thousands of hellish, very possibly drunk commenters. It was a masterpiece.
After Democrats in the Senate staged a filibuster in support of gun control measures, their colleagues in the House have begun a “sit-in” aimed at embarrassing Republicans into allowing a vote on a measure that would restrict the ability of suspected terrorists to legally buy guns. The move is fantastic political theater. It’s also a tremendous waste of popular support and activist energy in support of a measure that isn’t just ineffective but also actively offensive.
In 1962, the Pentagon had a pickle on its hands: America wanted to give South Vietnam guns with which to kill its Communist brothers and sisters in North Vietnam, but we couldn’t figure out which guns. According to Fox News commentator Sebastian Gorka, it’s all thanks to President Obama, Hillary Clinton, and political correctness.
Well, boy, hoo... this is embarrassing, but the Orange County Sheriff’s Department just lost an AR-15 rifle. Have you seen it? It looks just like the one up there. Uh, if you find it, could you give it back? Listen, I know this looks bad, but do me a solid here. They put it on top of their car and then drove off. I guess it fell. Anyone?
President Obama is currently starting one last effort for gun control, in his final year in office. Sometime in the next two weeks, he is expected announce an executive order to require more small gun sellers to do background checks, and he plans to pitch that idea and other gun-control measures to the American public at a CNN-televised town hall Thursday.
Liberty University’s president decided that an arena full of people whose frontal lobes have not yet finished developing was the perfect place to denounce Islam and promote carrying dangerous weapons, all in the same breath.
