Thou shalt prayeth away the gay no more, sayeth the White House Wednesday.
The statement, written by advisor Valerie Jarrett, was timed to coincide with an executive order that went into effect this week protecting gay and transgender federal employees from discrimination, the New York Times reports.
The White House was forced to respond to the issue when a "We the People" petition—inspired by the December suicide of a transgender 17-year-old whose religious leader tried to "convert" her back to being a boy—got more than 120,000 signatures online.
While nice, the required response wasn't much more than that—though Jarrett does specify the administration "supports all efforts to ban the use of conversion therapy for minors."
